Who We Are

Welcome To Brookfield CRC

We are the Brookfield Christian Reformed Church, a vibrant family united in faith and love. Rooted in the belief that we are all children of one heavenly Father, we embrace each other as brothers and sisters in Christ. Our journey together is not just about worship; it extends to all aspects of life. We support, celebrate, and comfort each other, embodying the familial bond that our faith nurtures.

"Brookfield" signifies our local mission; "Christian" denotes our allegiance to Jesus Christ, guiding us through the Bible and the Holy Spirit; "Reformed" represents our continuous reevaluation of our beliefs and practices against the Bible, upholding the principles of the 16th-century Protestant reformers. In this journey of faith, we walk together, embracing the adventure that God sets before us, as a family in Christ.

Our Denomination's Heritage

Our heritage traces back to the Protestant Reformation, reflecting a diverse congregation that transcends its initial origins. Today, we are a melting pot of cultures, unified in our common faith in Jesus Christ. This diversity reflects our growth from a single trunk of faith that began on Pentecost, branching into various denominations, including our own called the Christian Reformed Church, established in North America in 1857 by immigrants from the Dutch Reformed tradition.

Central to our identity is the Bible's authority, which guides our worship, work, life, and mission. We are a church shaped by the teachings of Scripture and the Holy Spirit, always seeking to align more closely with God's will. Our future, while unknown, is held in God's hands. As Brookfield Christian Reformed Church, we are committed to serving both God and our community.

Our Church's History

Brookfield Christian Reformed Church has a rich history dating back to the early 1900s, with initial attempts to establish the church in Milwaukee beginning in 1918. The official organizational meeting took place on March 9, 1939, under the guidance of Rev. John R. Brink, marking the formal beginning of our congregation. The first worship services were held on March 12, 1939. Over the years, the church underwent several significant changes, including the purchase of a building at 2447 N. Richards Street in 1945 and moving to its location at N. 88th and W. Burleigh Streets, with the new building's groundbreaking in June 1952. The church was officially dedicated in 1953. In the 1970s, the church's name was changed from Milwaukee Christian Reformed Church to Brookfield Christian Reformed Church, and a new building was dedicated in November 1973 at 14135 W. Burleigh, Brookfield. The church continued to grow and evolve, with significant expansions and renovations in 1991 and 2007 to accommodate our growing community and provide more space for worship and fellowship.

In the late 1960s, church members were instrumental in forming Brookfield Christian School, which has grown to an approximately 300 student school. The school shares a campus with the church but operates as a separate school with its own board governance. In 2010, the church helped plant a new church on Milwaukee’s east side, City Reformed Church and maintains close relationships with that congregation. Today, we celebrate our legacy and continue to serve and grow in faith, guided by God's enduring grace and love.
